My favourite shopping strip – High Sreet, Armadale, home to many amazing australian designer labels and fabulous cafes for breakfast/Brunch! One of the best places for coffee is ‘thelovebird’
The latte is perfectly smooth, creamy and just divine.
Being a big fan of cold drip, this one was officially the best i have had, silky smooth with a hint of sweetness.
Today i decided to make quick stop for take away espresso and hot chocholate at Dukes Coffee Roasters after hearing all the hype and positive reviews online.
And yes, i agree – amazing coffee, perfectly roasted with no bitter aftertaste and almost a hint of sweetness.
The hot chocolate was perfectly chocolately and creamy and not too sweet at all.
However my quick stop was NOT so quick due to how crazy busy it was with a line and constant people flooding the doors!
The Point is On Point! We went here for lunch and can i say what a lovely lunch it was.
As you enter, you can tell that the meat is the real focus here, with the display of dry ageing meat hanging in a glass cased room.
Awarded one chefs hat by The Age Good Food Guide for many good reasons!
Classy, refind, spectacular service, delicious food, and stunning views of the city accross the Albert Park Lake, now this is my type of dining!
First dish is a complimentary Amuse-bouche.. and it was a light flavour explosion of smoked trout on cucumber to activate the tastebuds. 8/10
For entree we have herbed gnocchi with greens. 8/10.
For Main is the Tasting Plate.
Here we have 100g each of:
‘Cape Grim’ Eye Fillet, Pasture Fed
‘Sher1’ Wagu Porterhouse 350+ days Grain Fed
‘Hopkins River’ Eye Fillet 120+ Grain Fed.
The meat was cooked medium rare and simply melted in the mouth.
Also comes with a trio of mustard. 9/10.
Main cource, Barramundi fillet. 8/10.
A side of Beef Fat Potatoes… Damn were they the best potatoes i’ve ever had. 10/10.
The dessert was a pistscio and cherry parfait with cherry sorbet and vanilla bean ice cream. Light, sophisticated and moreish! To Die For! 9/10.
Oh Baby! The moment you walk through the doors of this italian pizzeria, you are greeted with an oh so yummy smell of pizza and pasta which just activates your taste buds!
This place is BUSY!! and i mean BUSY! there are people constantly flooding the doors all night as there is a no booking policy. I have never seen an empty table.
Why… well the FOOD is why. Yummy, smack in your face, full of flavour Italian dishes that just pack a punch and leave you satisfied!
Calamari with rocket and olive tepanade.
The crisp peppery rocket and saltiness of the olives balances well with the perfectly cooked calamri.. 9/10
Do not be fooled by the look of this dish. Although not eyecatching.. WOW this yellowfin tuna tartare is bang on with flavour, chilli, capers and parsley.. oh and did i mention the tuna simply melts in ur mouth… 9/10
The Spagetti Marinara was ok… great flavours, but i thought lacked some moisture. 7/10
Pumkin and sage gnocchi, sprinkled with a generous helping of parmesan. Hearty, classic flavours with soft pillowy goodness! 8/10
The oven baked potatoes were moreish and definately done in a woodfired oven giving them a crispy skin and creamy inside.. seasoned with sea salt, rosemary and olive oil. 9/10
Funghi Pizza was crispy based and delish! 8/10.
Tiramisu.. one of my favourite deserts… it still doesnt beat Pizza E-Birra in St Kilda which is my fave… but this one comes in a close 2nd. Creamy marscapone, soft, moist coffee soaked italian sponge biscuit and a sprinkle of cocoa.. not too sweet at all. 9/10.
If your hungry head down to Baby, its sure to tantalize your tastebuds.
Montalto has really set the benchmark of what a winery should be… in my view anyway.
Awarded one hat by The Age Good Food Guide for a good reason… and its not just the food that impresses!
Entree we have Tuna avocado tartare with lemon and ginger vinaigrette. Very light and perfectly balanced. Lacked a bit of punch though. 8/10
Entree, Scallops and beets with a raspberry vinaigrette.. Delish! 9/10.
For main, the eye fillet is cooked medium rare to perfection and paired with celeriac puree, asparagus and glazed shallots… YUM! 9/10
Main Course – Loin of Lamb, very tender is paired with some herbed gnocchi, peas and shaves Parmesan… very hearty yet sophisticated… 8/10.
As always we are extremely full by the time desert comes. I try not to have desert… but cant resist to have a bite or to as always! So desert is usually for “2” (sharing is caring!). This tasted a lot better than it looks… perfectly moist flour less chocolate fudge with a very light chocolate mousse is not too sweet at all! In fact i regret not devouring the whole one alone! Big Tick here.. 9/10.
You may also take a stroll through the vineyard afterward to truly experience all Montalto has to offer.
There is also a cafe next to the restaurant which has a garden like setting with seats set outside the winery for a more casual lunch.
